Here's What You Need To Know About Whitening...jonninicoleFeb 13, 20201 min readUpdated: May 20There are no standard for teeth whiteness. On average, due to the diversity of devices, shapes and sizes of teeth, on average, “a score above 70 is esthetic. A score above 80, is exceptional”*. Your “ Teeth Whiteness Score”®, is really an outcome of equilibriums. Nature vs nurture. The more frequent you are exposed to stains, via food, drinks, smoking, and medication, the darker your teeth becomes. The more often you whiten, the better you maintain your oral hygiene, the whiter your smile. Always keep in mind that different people react to whitening differently. Thus results vary greatly. We now know that gray stains are the most difficult to eliminate, while yellows are easier to mitigate. We must be cognizant that shadows do distort the appearance of teeth. Hence, teeth in the lower jaw may sometimes appear darker than the upper front teeth. Always keep in mind that gum recession causes the exposure tooth root surfaces. These surfaces are inherently yellow, and whitening is not appropriate for treating discoloration due to root exposure. Nor does whitening resolve discolorations from tooth decay. Finally, keep in mind that the type and quality of ambient light affects the perceptions of color. Different lighting may elaborate certain pigmentations of teeth, while dampening others. Therefore, we recommend using the KOSMILZE App in a dark room. This way we may establish a basis for comparisons. If you choose to use the app in a room with ambient light, you will get a score reflective of your dentitions interaction with that particular light.
